Hide-and-seek was a game Davyna loved playing as a child because she always won. But after the death of her adopted father, the game became her life’s mission to seek a blood relative to set her free from the cursed deal she made.

When every lead turns up empty, Davyna is forced to seek help from the creatures that hide in the dark.

And when her fairytale dream for her life goes up in flames, Davyna finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew as one secret after another is revealed. As darkness surrounds her, she wonders if there is any chance of waking from this nightmare.

With the help of new allies, will she find her way back to the light, or fall deeper into hell?

What started as a quest for her freedom quickly turns into a fight for her life as Davyna navigates loss, lust, and love. But more importantly, as she seeks answers to who- or what- she is.

Writing Style

Bec’s writing style reminds me of SJM gone dark side and L.J. Smith (The Vampire Diaries) with her own personal flare and passion that can be seen in every aspect of this book. You can tell through the writing that this book is loved by its author. The story is unique and fun to read, and the world is beautiful as we travel with our FMC Davyna through her adventure. I also really love how the magic in this book is described, and how the world has a whimsical feel to it. A dark romance written in a whimsical world is such a contradiction and I loved every second of it.

My Opinions

This book left me speechless. The tension builds in every scene, and the world seems to bloom revealing more and more as the story unfolds while it reminded me of a fairytale turned dark romance which I love so much. The characters themselves are well developed, and you can see the love and painstaking details that Fay has included.

This would be a fantastic read for lovers of both dark romance and dark fantasy as it is the perfect combination of both genres. Its almost like a dark romance some how corrupted a fairytale, and this story is the result.
