Michael Turner’s Fathom – Vol 1 Issue 7 – Review

I love water worlds. Daughter of the Drowned Empire, The movie Water World, H2O as a Kid. Anything with water and magic or mermaids I was all about. So when I happened on this comic in a mystery bag I was immediately intrigued. I haven’t found any of the immediate comics before or after this issue, but the hunt is on! That’s the best part of comic book collecting.

The Art

Michael Turner’s art style is dark, while still holding true to traditional comic book art styles. This comic is a little more modernized. I love how the magic is depicted, and how the clothing styles of the people are reminiscent of some kind of indigenous people. They honestly remind me of adult water benders if they were placed in a water world.

All the panels are beautifully depicted, Michael Turner was one of a kind. I’m just sad I wasn’t able to meet him before he passed away. RIP.

The Writing

This story is interesting, and I cannot wait to learn more about it. Magic, warriors, a chosen one and a rebellion. The small glimpse I got into this world through this issue has be mesmerized and wanting more. Not just with the art but with the world our writer has created.

Aspen our main character seems to be stuck in the middle of something big and something that could change the world and not in a good way. I’m not entirely sure what Mr. Big bad is planning because I haven’t read previous issues, but I’m excited to find out.
